Emerald Energy, LLC was created in 2008 to commercialize the MegaFlora Tree ® after 10 years of development and optimization.

Emerald produces proprietary high-value agricultural products for use as biofuel feedstock, soil remediation, and for reforestation projects. 

Emerald's technology has been developed and tested for the past 10 years, resulting in several unique trees and oilseed crops that provide multiple benefits for the environment and society. 

The heart of Emerald's proprietary process is trade-secret amino acid transference of DNA.  This allows the DNA of one or more species to be co-mingled with the DNA of a singular or multiple different species to produce a new hybrid-cross product. This proprietary process includes no genetic modification, and the unique properties of the hybrid-cross product allow high-value crops to be grown in marginal soil.  The hybrid-cross product is also rendered sterile in the process (similar to the production of a nectarine), thereby making the tree non-invasive.

Emerald Energy is currently commercializing the first of these products, a high-density, short-rotation (HDSR) tree, known as MegaFlora Tree ®.  The MegaFlora Tree ® provides a very high density of biomass per acre for cellulosic biofuel production, can be grown on marginal land using poor quality irrigation water, and will regrow from its own stump after harvest at 3-year intervals.
